Course Program

 

Class 1: Monday October 3rd 6 PM to  7.15 PM

- Introduction to Yoga Sutras

- The four chapters in a nutshell

- Definition and purpose of yoga according to Patanjali

- Citta, citta vrittis, abhyasa & vairagya

- Purusha and Prakrti, the Seer and the Seen 

- Chanting Sanskrit: pronunciation, call and response method

- Start chanting Samadhi Pada (the first chapter)

 

Wednesday October 5th 6 PM: Extra chanting class 

 

Class 2: Monday October 10th 6 PM to 7.15 PM

Continuing the first chapter. Themes: 

- Ishvara Pranidhana (Surrender to God / Higher Consciousness)

- Om 
- Obstacles in the process

-  Methods of harmonising the mind

 


Wednesday October 12th: Extra chanting class

 

Class 3: Monday October 17th 6 PM to 7.15 PM

Moving to the chapter on practice (Sadhana Pada):

- Kriya Yoga - the path of action: how and why to practice Kriya yoga

- Kleshas (basics tensions of life), their root and elimination

 

Wednesday October 19th: Extra chanting class

 

Class 4: Monday October 24th 6 PM to 7.15 PM

Ashtanga Yoga

- Why Ashtanga (all the eight limbs of) yoga should be practiced

- Yamas and niyamas 

- Method of controlling negative thoughts

- The chapters on asana, yoga posture

Wednesday October 27th: Chanting practice
 

On this foundation course, you will learn about the basic concepts and themes of Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

We will focus  on the first two chapters and learn them traditionally by chanting in Sanskrit, and also discuss the content in an approachable way. 

 

The course is suitable for you, if:

 

- You are completely new to chanting and studying yoga sutras

- You want to learn more about the meanings of the Yoga Sutras and understand how they are relevant in your practice and everyday life. 

- You want to learn to chant the Yoga Sutras or want to improve your chanting
